BRFSS Configuration Selection
Overview
Select BRFSS data from recent years (2011-forward) by clicking on a green bar, below.Starting in 2011, improvements were made to the BRFSS sampling and weighting procedures to allow BRFSS data to better represent the Kentucky population. Most importantly, beginning in 2011, respondents using cell phones were included in the survey, while in previous years, only respondents using land-line telephones were included. Data from the earlier period are not comparable to data from 2011-forward.
The KY-BRFS data are maintained by the Kentucky Department for Public Health, Chronic Disease Prevention and Control Branch.

Physical Inactivity

This measure uses the U.S. Preventive Services Task Force (USPSTF) Guidelines definition for breast cancer screening. The USPSTF recommends breast cancer screening with a mammogram every 2 years for women aged 50-74 years. This question was asked of women age 50-74, in even-numbered years only.Pap Test

This measure uses the U.S. Preventive Services Task Force (USPSTF) Guidelines definition for cervical cancer screening. The USPSTF recommends cervical cancer screening (1) every 3 years with a Pap test for women aged 21-65 years or (2) a combination of Pap test and human papillomavirus (HPV) testing every 5 years for women aged 30-65 years. BRFSS query includes persons age 50-65, in even-numbered years only.Endoscopy
Sigmoidoscopy and colonoscopy are exams in which a tube is inserted in the rectum to view the colon for signs of cancer or other health problems. Have you ever had either of these exams? (BRFSS query includes persons age 50+, in even-numbered years only.)Colorectal Cancer Screening (USPSTF Definition)
This measure uses the U.S. Preventive Services Task Force (USPSTF) Guidelines definition for colorectal cancer screening. The USPSTF recommends several tests for the prevention or early detection of CRC among adults aged 50-75 years: (1) high-sensitivity FOBT (guaiac-based FOBT or fecal immunochemical test [FIT]) annually, (2) colonoscopy every 10 years, or (3) sigmoidoscopy every 5 years with FOBT every 3 years. The BRFSS does not differentiate between the guaiac-based FOBT and the FIT. BRFSS query includes persons age 50-75, in even-numbered years only.Cholesterol Test

Percentage Who Had a Fall (Adults Age 45+)
How many times have you fallen in the last 12[3] months? Question is asked only of adults age 45 years and older. In 2006, 2008 and 2010 the question asked about falls in the last 3 months. This is a measure of the percentage of adults 45 years old or older who were injured in a fall in the last 12 months.
